Zeitgeist by The Smashing Pumpkins

Finally! A new Smashing Pumpkins album…or atleast that’s what the cover art says. I have been hoping for years to see a new Pumpkins album released and the day has finally come, but for some reason I’m not very happy with it…
As far as I’m concerned this album is far from what I was expecting from a “Smashing Pumpkins” album. Yes, Billy Corgan is still the singer and yes, the original drummer is also back but strangely they were both also in Zwan…the band that appeared after the SP breakup.
This album overall is very average. A few tracks stick out to me, but I’m finding it pretty hard to enjoy any of the songs off this album as much as their prior work. Billy Corgan obviously still has his unique voice but the melodies and guitar riffs from the older albums just don’t seem to be there.
I would have to say after the first full listen of the album (Come on) Let’s Go! and Tarantula are my 2 favorite songs, but that’s not saying much.
As for the worst I’d probably have to go with Pomp and Circumstances which is almost painfully slow to listen to.
Like I said before this album is an average release and not quite up to par with the older Pumpkin albums.
